Tragic Clash Claims Two Lives in Sumbawa

TEMPO.CO, Sumbawa - A clash between groups resulting in two deaths occurred in Sabedo Village, Utan District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Sumbawa Police Chief, Adjunct Commissioner Bagus Nyoman Gede Junaedi confirmed the incident of severe assault using sharp weapons. "The police received information from residents about a commotion at the location that disturbed the peace of the surrounding residents," said Bagus Nyoman on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

The incident began when E and D, two local brothers, were karaoke singing and drinking alcohol at the house of an individual with the initial A. A resident identified as S, also known as NB, arrived carrying a machete. He reprimanded them for causing a disturbance, which led to an argument and mutual challenges.

E and D then returned home to retrieve sharp weapons. They went to the house of S, also known as NB. Failing to find S, they began causing a commotion around the location. Troubled residents then reported to the Utan Police Sub-District.

In response to the information, officers who arrived at the location managed to calm the situation and asked the group of E and D to disperse. Personnel from the Utan Police Sub-District, who received reports from residents, revisited the location twice to prevent a larger commotion until the situation was deemed safe. The Utan Police Sub-District personnel then returned to the station.

However, around 03:00 AM, the commotion broke out again. S, along with several of his friends from Buer District, came to the location in search of E and D with sharp weapons. A clash was inevitable. In this incident, two individuals from S's group, K (58) and KM (51), died on the spot.

Meanwhile, D suffered serious injuries and was taken to the emergency room at Sumbawa Regional Hospital, while S, another local resident, sustained injuries to the cheek, nose, and left arm but was allowed to go home after receiving treatment at the Utan Community Health Center.

Following the incident, E caused a commotion at the Utan Community Health Center. The police took him to the police sub-district for detention. Meanwhile, S and A are still being sought by the police.

The police urge everyone to hand over this matter to the authorities and refrain from seeking revenge. Law enforcement officers are also continually monitoring and approaching both parties to maintain a conducive security situation and prevent the escalation of the conflict.

As of now, the police are still guarding the Utan area to secure the location and prevent further clashes.
