TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian women’s badminton team secured a silver medal at the 2025 SEA Games after falling to host nation Thailand in the team event final on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
The gold medal match in Pathum Thani concluded with a 3-1 score in favor of Thailand.
Indonesia initially took the lead thanks to Putri Kusuma Wardani. The world No. 7 in women’s singles contributed crucial points after defeating Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-8, 13-21, 21-16. The match lasted 1 hour and 11 minutes.
While Putri dominated the first set, Chochuwong fought back in the second, forcing a decisive third set. In the final set, the sixth-ranked Thai player led 12-7, but Putri rallied to draw level at 14-14 and ultimately secured the win 21-16.
However, Indonesia’s momentum could not be maintained in subsequent matches. The women’s doubles pair, Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum, fresh from their Australian Open 2025 victory last month, were defeated by Benyapa Aimsaard and Supissara Paewsampran in a grueling 1 hour 23-minute match that ended 21-18, 11-21, 21-18.
In the second singles match, senior player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung could not overcome Ratchanok Intanon, losing in straight sets 7-21, 15-21.
The second doubles pair, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, who were expected to extend Indonesia’s chances, fell to Ornicha Jongsathapornparn and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat. The intense match, marked by long rallies, ended 21-19, 21-18.
Jongsathapornparn and Sudjaipraparat’s victory secured Thailand’s seventh consecutive gold medal in the women’s team event since the 2011 SEA Games.
With this result, Indonesia’s team once again finished as runners-up, settling for the silver medal for the third consecutive edition of this event.
