TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Russian plane carrying nearly 50 people crashed in a remote area of the Amur Region on Thursday, July 24, 2025, killing everyone on board.
The Soviet-made Antonov-24 twin-propeller plane went down in a dense forest, with smoke billowing from the crash site, as reported by Al Arabiya. According to state media and video released by investigators, there were no signs of survivors.
The Angara Airlines flight was en route to Tynda from Blagoveshchensk when it disappeared from radar at around 1:00 p.m. local time. A rescue helicopter later located the burning fuselage on a forested mountainside, approximately 15 kilometers south of Tynda airport.
Video released by Russian investigators showed thick smoke rising from the crash site and what appeared to be aircraft debris scattered across the forest floor.
A search and rescue team reached the remote, hard-to-access location just hours after the crash. State news agency TASS reported no evidence of survivors. Investigators have not yet stated the cause of the crash.
Angara Airlines CEO Sergei Salamanov told Russia's REN TV channel that the weather was poor at the time of the incident. "The commander made the decision to carry out the flight," he said.
Tynda, a city of about 30,000 people, is located within dense taiga forest approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the Chinese border.
Chinese state media reported that one Chinese national was among those on board the plane. President Xi Jinping offered his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I would like to express my deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims," Xi Jinping said, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Amur Region Governor Vasily Orlov confirmed the plane was carrying 43 passengers and six crew members, including five children.
