TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has announced substantial investment commitments from the United States in Indonesia. According to him, these commitments are expected to help maintain a balanced trade relationship between the two countries, even with the U.S. implementing reciprocal tariffs.

Airlangga highlighted that the U.S. is one of the top five investors in Indonesia. "For example, ExxonMobil is currently in talks with Indonesia to establish a carbon capture and storage facility with a potential value of up to US$10 billion," he announced during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Further investment commitments include up to US$6 billion from technology company Oracle. Additionally, Microsoft and Amazon plan to build cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence facilities, valued at US$1.7 billion and US$5 billion, respectively.

GE Healthcare will also collaborate with Kalbe Farma to establish Indonesia's first CT scanner factory. "The factory, located in West Java, will have an initial investment of Rp178 billion," Airlangga added.

The United States has reduced import tariffs on Indonesian products from 32 percent to 19 percent. In return, Indonesia will waive tariffs on U.S. products.

"Indonesia will eliminate approximately 99 percent of tariff barriers on U.S. industrial and food products exported to Indonesia," the White House announced in a joint statement released on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The statement also detailed commercial agreements between U.S. and Indonesian companies. These include the purchase of aircraft totaling US$3.2 billion, agricultural products, including soybeans, wheat, and cotton, worth US$4.5 billion, and energy products worth US$15 billion.
