TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his capacity as ASEAN chairperson, has touched the conscience of global leaders to advocate for peace in Gaza.
Anwar stated in a release in Kuala Lumpur, as reported by Antara, that the tragedy in Gaza is a test for humanity as a whole.
"Entire families are killed. Children-even babies-have been killed. Others are suffering from starvation. The appalling neglect of human life and dignity must end, as it is a violation of the most fundamental moral code," said Anwar Ibrahim.
He said Malaysia calls upon all world leaders to act immediately. Every government that believes in international law, every country that claims to respect human life, must speak with one voice.
"In this regard, I urge all influential parties on Israel to find courage and act decisively," he said.
"I specifically appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump to use his influence to press for an immediate end to killing, stop indiscriminate bombing, and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need without barriers," Anwar added.
He emphasized that the time has come to prioritize moral leadership and uphold the values that are claimed to be defended.
Malaysia declares its readiness to work with all countries-North and South, East and West-to provide assistance to Gaza and restore basic humanitarian principles.
"Let us not be remembered as those who remain idle. Let us be guided by our conscience to respond to suffering with compassion, and pursue peace for our humanity," said Anwar.
Gaza is currently facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in its history, where severe hunger due to the Israeli blockade intersects with Israel's genocidal war since October 7, 2023.
As reported by Anadolu, hospitals in Gaza are experiencing severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies, and are on the verge of complete collapse in diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
The Ministry of Health also announced the closure of medical services at six health centers, including a hospital and a central oxygen station, due to fuel shortages caused by Israel's complete closure of crossings since March 2025.
The ministry warned that all remaining hospitals in Gaza could cease operations within 48 hours.
Health officials reported that the number of deaths due to starvation and malnutrition since October 2023 has increased to 101, including 80 children, following the deaths of 15 Palestinians, including four children, in the past 24 hours.
The Gaza Government Media Office warned on Sunday that the enclave is on the brink of "mass death" after more than 140 days of complete crossing closure. This has resulted in humanitarian aid trucks being completely unable to enter Gaza.
While food aid centers managed by a private U.S. security contractor foundation in four points in Gaza have become death traps for Palestinians.
Israeli forces, assisted by Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) personnel who are former U.S. mercenaries, easily shot desperate food seekers. Nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been shot dead while seeking food since the GHF opened on May 26.
Israel has killed more than 59,100 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has destroyed the enclave, paralyzed the health system, and caused severe food shortages.
