Israel Threatens to Devastate Yemen as It Did to Tehran

7 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  The Israeli military announced it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The missile is believed to have been fired by the Houthi group, coming just a day after Israel carried out an airstrike on the Hodeidah port, which is under the militia's control.

"Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF," the military stated on its Telegram channel, as reported by Al Arabiya.

This missile launch is part of a broader pattern of Houthi attacks in support of Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Over the past few months, the Iran-aligned group has repeatedly launched missiles and drones at Israel.

Retaliatory Strike on Hodeidah Port

On Monday, July 21, the Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike on Yemen’s Hodeidah port. The Jerusalem Post reported that the operation was a response to recent ballistic missile attacks launched by the Houthis against Israel.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed the airstrikes, while the Israeli military stated they had targeted “military infrastructure belonging to the Houthis at the port of Hodeidah.”

Gallant explained that the strike aimed to prevent the reconstruction of the port's infrastructure, which had already been damaged in previous attacks. He also warned that Yemen would face the same consequences as Tehran.

“Yemen’s fate will be the same as Tehran’s."

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz echoed Gallant's statement, asserting that the same rules applied to Yemen and Tehran. His remarks referenced Israel's 12-day military campaign against Iran from June 13 to 24.

Targeted Facilities: Infrastructure and Naval Assets

The Israeli military confirmed that its operation targeted engineering equipment used for port reconstruction, fuel storage containers, military vessels, and other ships located in the maritime zone surrounding the port.

According to Israeli forces, the Hodeidah port had been used to smuggle weapons from Iran to the Houthis, which were then directed at Israel and its allies.

A Houthi security official told Al Arabiya that the strike destroyed the port’s pier, which had only recently been rebuilt following previous attacks.

Drone Intercepted from Eastern Direction

Also on Monday, the Israeli military reported downing a drone that approached from the east. The Jerusalem Post noted that this direction typically points to Yemen, the origin of most Houthi-launched attacks.

Based on the drone’s flight path and the timing of its interception, Israeli forces believe it may have been launched prior to the airstrike on Hodeidah. However, the military has yet to issue a definitive statement on the incident.

Israel added that Houthi attacks persist in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. These assaults continue to target ships allegedly linked to Israel in an attempt to pressure the country into halting its military operations in Gaza.
