TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, stated that the Iranian government hopes for President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to Tehran to take place soon. This statement was made during the commemoration of the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Iran at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at night.
Boroujerdi then detailed that an official invitation has been extended to President Prabowo and has been well received by the Indonesian government.
"We have invited President Prabowo Subianto to make a state visit. The invitation has been well received, and the Indonesian government is preparing for the visit in the near future," he said.
He added that the Iranian government hopes to welcome Prabowo in Tehran soon. The visit is considered important because the late former Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, visited Indonesia in 2023.
"We eagerly anticipate welcoming President Prabowo to Iran for an official state visit," he expressed.
According to Boroujerdi, although Iran has received a response letter from President Prabowo, the confirmation of the visit date is still pending confirmation from Jakarta. "We are still waiting for the Presidential Office to inform us when (Prabowo) will visit Iran," he said.
Boroujerdi added that Iran is ready to receive President Prabowo's arrival once the schedule is set. "Whether it's this year or next year, it all depends on President Prabowo's availability," he added.
75 Years of Indonesia and Iran Bilateral Relations
The commemoration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Iran in 2025 has encouraged both countries to strengthen their bilateral ties.
This cooperation extends beyond the political and economic fields. Indonesia and Iran also strengthen their ties through cultural diplomacy, including the screening of Indonesian films in Tehran, the 2025 Iran-Indonesia Film Festival in Jakarta, and the launch of special stamps commemorating 75 years of bilateral relations.
The commemoration is also marked by the Exhibition of Indonesian-Iranian Diplomatic Archives held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iranian Embassy at Taman Ismail Marzuki from November 27 to December 5, 2025. The exhibition includes documents and photos that record the journey of the relations between the two countries since 1950.
