TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia has announced its 23-man U-23 squad for the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, with four overseas-born diaspora players included in the team selected by head coach Indra Sjafri. The tournament will take place in Thailand.

Three of the four diaspora players currently play in the Netherlands: Ivar Jenner (FC Utrecht), Dion Markx (TOP Oss), and Mauro Zijlstra (FC Volendam). The fourth, Marselino Ferdinan, is on loan at Slovak club AS Trenín from Oxford United.

Marselino did not join either of the two training camps held in Jakarta in October and November and missed preparation matches against India and Mali.

Despite his absence, the 21-year-old midfielder remains a key selection. He brings significant experience, having competed in the 2021 and 2023 SEA Games. In the 2023 edition in Cambodia, he helped Indonesia win its first gold medal in 32 years after defeating Thailand 5–2 in extra time.

With 37 senior national team caps, Marselino is one of three players from the 2023 gold-winning squad to return for the 2025 campaign, alongside Muhammad Ferarri and Ananda Raehan.

Among domestic clubs, Bali United contributes the most players, with Kadek Arel, Rahmat Arjuna, and Jens Raven all named in the squad. Six other teams — PSIM Yogyakarta, PSM Makassar, Borneo FC, Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung FC, Persija Jakarta, and Persib Bandung — each send two players.

Coach Indra emphasized that squad selection followed a comprehensive evaluation process covering two training camps and four international friendlies.

“This decision was made after a thorough assessment of all available data from October and November, including league performances and input from the coaching staff and performance analysts,” he said, citing the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).

Indonesia was initially drawn in Group C with Singapore, the Philippines, and Myanmar. However, following adjustments to the tournament structure, Singapore has been moved to Group A. The Young Garuda squad will therefore only face the Philippines and Myanmar in the group stage.
