TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia clinched gold for men's team badminton at the SEA Games 2025. Alwi Farhan and his teammates emerged as champions after trouncing Malaysia in the finals on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
Competing in Pathum Thani, Thailand, Alwi, who played as the first singles, took the lead by defeating Leong Jun Hao in straight games, 21-12, 21-19. The match lasted for 46 minutes.
Alwi expressed gratitude for contributing points in this match. "Of course, I hope to show pride in representing Indonesia, and as a great nation, we must show extraordinary mentality," he said, as quoted from a statement shared by the PBSI media team on Wednesday.

During the match, Alwi was initially trailing in the second game, 6-10, 8-15, but managed to tighten the gap to 14-19, before eventually winning the match thanks to seven consecutive points, thus securing the victory.
"While I was lagging behind, coach Indra (Wijaya) said that today is the culmination of what I have prepared during training," he said. "This is the result of my hard work, my coach, psychologist, and my parents, who accompany me every day."
Alwi hoped that the victory would prompt further wins for his teammates who played after him. His wish was immediately fulfilled as Indonesia secured two subsequent wins.

The pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, who played as the first doubles, extended the lead by defeating Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik with a score of 21-12, 21-12. During this match, the duo dominated the match, preventing Aaron/Soh from developing their game.
Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah, who was playing the third match, ensured the victory of the Red and White team by defeating Justin Hoh with a score of 21-12, 21-14. With this result, the following two matches did not need to be played.
This victory over Malaysia ensured Indonesia's successful defense of the men's team badminton championship title, and it also marked the first gold medal for the shuttlecock sports. Previously, the women's badminton team could only clinch a silver medal after losing to Thailand 1-3 in the final.
