TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hanta virus of the Haemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) type has been found in four provinces. All patients have been declared recovered. Head of the Ministry of Health's Public Communication and Information Bureau, Aji Muhawarman, explained that these four provinces are Yogyakarta, West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and North Sulawesi. This virus is transmitted by rats.
One case was found in West Bandung Regency on May 20, 2025, at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung. The patient has recovered and resumed activities. "Epidemiological investigation and vector control have been carried out by the Ministry of Health, Jakarta Health Laboratory, West Java Health Office, West Bandung Health Office, Ngamprah Health Center, and Bojongkoneng Village apparatus," said Aji on Thursday, June 19, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
These series of cases were discovered based on a survey until June 19, 2025. All eight patients complained of almost the same symptoms, including fever, headache, body aches, and fatigue.
What is the Hanta Virus?
Hanta is a type of virus that spreads from rats to humans, especially through exposure to urine, feces, or saliva contaminating food, air, or surfaces around them. This transmission can occur even without direct contact, for example, when someone cleans an area that has long been unused and has been contaminated by rats. The Hanta virus is a zoonotic disease transmitted from rodent animals to humans. The cause is a virus from the genus Orthohantavirus that is transmitted by rats.
Preventing the Spread of Hanta Virus
As quoted from the Primaya Hospital website, here are the ways to prevent the transmission of the Hanta virus.

- Store food in tightly closed containers and dispose of any leftovers promptly to avoid rats approaching.
- Use traps or rat poison to reduce their numbers in the surrounding environment.
- Wear a mask properly when working in areas that are potential sources of hantavirus transmission.
As quoted from the Ministry of Health website, June 21, 2025.
- Adopting a clean and healthy lifestyle.
