TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) invited ten police attaches (atpol) from friendly countries to attend the 2025 Head of Regional Police Units (Kasatwil) gathering. Seven police attaches from friendly countries were present, including police from Australia, the United States (FBI), China, the Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, and France.
"This invitation is a commitment to realizing global security," said National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in a written statement on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Police attaches are officers who are assigned to work abroad. Their main task is to foster cooperation and coordination with the local police force. In addition to the police attaches from friendly countries, Polri also invited the Hong Kong police to the event held at the Mobile Brigade Corps Training Unit (Mako Satuan Latihan Korbrimob Polri) in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java.
Sigit hopes that Polri can learn from the Hong Kong Police in handling mass protests. "We invited speakers from the Hong Kong Police to seek models for handling actions, especially freedom of speech," he said.
Sigit mentioned that in the future, Polri will change its approach to demonstrating, from guarding to serving. He believes this is the right step to facilitate the freedom of expression of every citizen.
Sigit hopes that Polri can discuss the most appropriate strategies for dealing with mass riots during protests with the Hong Kong Police. He emphasized that this is important to prevent adverse effects on public security and order, as well as the potential disruption of public facilities.
Sigit claimed that Polri today has a concept for dealing with mass riots during protests. He believes that the idea, so far applied to maintain the sustainability of the public sector and the economy, still needs to be reviewed. "This will be part of our evaluation and discussion at the Kasatwil gathering," Sigit added.
This year's Kasatwil gathering is themed "Professional Transformation of Polri for the Community." Regional Police Chiefs and Police Chiefs will camp in tents for the next three days.
