Cambodia Briefs Foreign Diplomats on Border Tensions with Thailand

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation held an emergency meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions in Phnom Penh on Friday, July 25, 2025, to discuss the escalation of border conflict with Thailand.

During the meeting, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, provided guidance to the diplomatic corps members, including defense attachés.

As reported by Antara, this briefing was held to update the latest developments regarding the border tensions with Thailand, according to the ministry's statement.

The meeting discussed the causes of the conflict and sought diplomatic solutions to ease the tension. Officials will review the history of the dispute and examine recent incidents that have triggered the current situation.

According to the Khmer Times, the meeting underscores the importance of dialogue between the two parties to prevent further escalation.

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have sharply escalated since Thursday, sparked by a long-standing border dispute over the 11th-century UNESCO World Heritage site, Preah Vihear Temple.

After weeks of tension resulting from skirmishes and the expulsion of diplomats, armed clashes broke out around the border on Thursday, including the use of heavy artillery and rocket attacks near the disputed temple area.

The Thai Ministry of Public Health said on Friday that the death toll from Cambodian rocket attacks had reached 15, with 46 others injured.
